ITHACA, N.Y. — Residents of the south and west portions of Ithaca should monitor their mail for new water bills that were mailed out Thursday after Zone 3 water bills were distributed last month using incorrect rates.

In an announcement from the City of Ithaca, officials said the corrected bills will be delivered in envelopes marked “urgent.”

Zone 3, the largest of the city’s water meter zones, includes the western third of the city, most of the southern portion and a small part of the northwest. Zone 1 and 2 bills were not impacted since they are billed during different periods of the year.

The city’s announcement states that if someone already made a payment, the amount will be credited to their account, and any payments that have been placed in the mail already will be credited upon receipt by the city.

The city did not immediately disclose whether the bill readings were higher or lower than the correct amount, but noted that the correct rates for the December bills are $9.92 for water per 100 cubic feet and $7.29 for sewer per 100 cubic feet.

The water and sewer division lists the 2024 water rate per 100 cubic feet as $11.09.

The city directed those with questions to contact the Chamberlain’s Office.
